and a new adventure begins

Poetry came to me early. As a child I remember memorizing the beloved poem Trees by Joyce Kilmer. And I remember clearly a book of poetry by Robert Louis Stevenson which had as it’s cover the image of a girl swinging. I always imagined that girl was me. The line that caught me, as it has so many others, when I was in high school, was the well known line of Frosts: “Two roads diverged in a wood, and i……..i took the one less traveled by. And that has made all the difference.”

It seems as though I am once again, as we all do at various times through our lives, facing a divergent path. Where it leads I do not know but I hear it calling. Part of following it means I have to let go of some “known” and “familiar” territory; territory that I’ve come to love and feel at home in. A piece of that territory is this “Slices of Life Blog”. What a friend she has been. ….giving me a vehicle to connect with so many wonderful, supportive people….and a way by which to share my thoughts and images. Giving me structure and a sense of purpose. Oh, how I shall miss her. And how I shall miss you, dear reader. Thank you so much for your support and encouragement. I have a feeling that blogging may eventually become a part of my new path. So, if it is, I will let you know and hope to meet with you again through this wonderful vehicle of communication. I wish you much happiness and joy in this year of 2012 and the years that follow. I also wish you many wonderful adventures as you follow the paths that present themselves to you. (Especially, the divergent ones!) Ahh, how difficult the letting go can be. But one can’t reach forward to what “is” without letting go of what “was”.

As Rilke says:

“And now let us welcome the New Year
Full of things that have never been.”

Cheers!
