our energy

perseverance

bent by southerly winds
of time
the lone pine
stands

her steadfast presence
a testament

summer daydreams

sometimes
i imagine living
in a simpler time

a small town
where i would ride my bike
down to the
diner

for a cup of coffee and a muffin

i would chat with the fishermen
before they went out
to cast their nets
into the briny sea

ah
how lovely
it would be

providential provision

HE who rules the galaxies
and sets planets in their place
arranging just the right amount of

between them

ALMIGHTY ONE
so high above
how is it
YOU have set your love

on even such as these
your tiny humble
working bees

*You open your hand and satisfy the desires of every living thing.  ~Psalm 145: 16

seedling

ever felt like
something seized hold of you

mid-flight?

or perhaps, even now
an unforseen circumstance
is holding you back
from your journey

don't be afraid
a strong summer breeze
is coming

*The Lord will fulfill his purpose for me.
His steadfast love endures forever.   ~Psalm 34:8a

sunflowers

don't they express
an unadulterated joy?

i can almost hear them saying

you there, by the side of the road
stand tall
spread all the color
you possibly can

band with us
to declare
the wild and holy
love
of God

portrait

such is the look
of unconditional love
and forever friendship

tiny mushroom

if it weren't for its dazzling white
i might have missed it
there among the grasses
so striking in its
simplicity

oh, what we must miss
in the measure of
a moment

*The earth is full of His unfailing love.
Keep your eyes open for God.
  Watch for His works.
Be alert for signs of His presence.    ~Psalm 33:5

castor oil

a home remedy
traced back to ancient
Egypt
and used round the world

better known as
wonder oil

i've never tasted it
have you?

i do remember
watching Alfalfa
screw his freckled face
and open wide
with Spanky, Weezer, and
Buckwheat looking on

those little rascals
all knowing what
would happen next

run Alfalfa run!!

i think it will be one of those things
i go through life
without experiencing

one can't do everything
now, can one?

sounds of the sumac

the sumac leaves are beginning to turn
though it's only mid july
and the chill of autumn
weeks away

scattered amidst all the green
and so few
like scouts sent
to spy out
the dry lands of summer

i hear them
this sultry, sweltering day
announcing
with stunning conviction

a new world
coming

*He makes all things beautiful in His time. . . .~Ecc. 3:11

abstract

abstracts give us cause
to pause
and take
a second look

they say
"go ahead
be free to disagree
on what it is
you see

appreciate
the color
and the line
and if you find a subject
fine"

** Artists can color the sky red because they know it's blue.  Those of us who aren't artists must color things the way they really are or people might think we're stupid.  ~Jules Feiffer

communion

oh the blessed gifts
of water, wind, and sky
of human touch
and the kindredness
of creatures big and small
who choose to love us
for apparently
no reason at all

barns in late afternoon light

these hazy days of summer
bid me leave
the maze of overthinking

and simply say
"yes"
to the way
of things

design

that you would give
such detailed attention
to a leaf
in the deep
of the forest

speaks more to me
than a thousand words
of philosophy

arm in arm

they probably don't know
their simply walking down the sidewalk
makes a statement

their hats
their decision to walk
to enjoy the morning sun
to be together

they probably have no
idea

alone in the storm

and though
we oft feel alone

it is
never true

found

yesterday
i found a spoon
in a tree

and it wasn't me
who put it there

there was a drop of rain
on the spoon
that was in the tree
that was in the ground

that happened to be
around
the corner of the qwik shop

from which i had wandered
away
while my husband stayed
to top off the truck
with gas

and what is the meaning
of this tiny tale
of the spoon in the tree?

if you can find one
pray
tell me!

garden question

what makes a tomato turn red?
my huband asked over lunch on the deck
eyeing his green ones on the vine

sun, time
weather
whatever makes a banana turn yellow
i said

same things
that if allowed
replace our hard and proud
hearts

with a humbleness
ready
for harvest

soft questions

so
where do soft things come from?

why isn't the world
only angles
and squares
hard
firm and solid?
who would have cared

if it all started off with a bang
why aren't we still hurling

july sunset

perhaps
the most profound purpose
of a sunset
is it's silent call
to stillness

tie dye babe

my husband is
an ex-hippie

not "dyed in the wool"

but a fun luvin'
peace luvin'
kind

these little tie dyes remind me
of my "long hair"
"sandal wearin'"
"miracle find"

of that which brought us
light

we are softened
into something
beautiful

a simple reminder

mr. goat,
your beard
makes me think you
wise

but i can tell
from your tired yellow eyes
you carry a weight
far too heavy

thanks for the reminder
that my brain
wasn't meant for overload
either

orange

you delight me
sweet succulent
orange

perfect piece of art
amidst the lines
designs
and shadows

cat nap

oh orange one
you make the saying
"cat nap"

all it was ever meant to be

symbol

what does it mean to you?
this tattered cloth
of red and blue
faded through
by sun
and weather

what does it say
through its subtle wave
in the quiet hush
of morning

saturday morning market

for me the market
is quite a thrill

i excitedly fill my bags
with vegetables
fresh fruits
herbs and more

but mostly i adore
and set out to see

the vast array of
humanity

prayer at the mediterranean market

oh father above
giver of so much
love and variety

spice me up
when i grow bland

put your hand
on the scoop
of what i need

and in your good time

blend in
generously

lovely hue
lovely blue moment
