unseasonably warm
it's early december
but my morning walk
brought thoughts of may
the chorus of birdsong
and the warm moist air
caused me pause
inhale the moment
twas there
in the quiet of the cornfield
that grace o'er shadowed
me
"Nature is man's teacher. She unfolds her treasures to his search, unseals his eye, illumines his mind, and purifies his heart; an influence breathes from all the sights and sounds of her existence."
~Alfred Billings Street

noticing
it's the little things
from those gone
before
like scuff marks on a door
or handwritten numbers
on an old window pane
that do fain
propel me
onward
"It's surprising how much memory is built around things unnoticed at the time" ~Barbara Kingsolver

thanksgiving day eve
should someone ask
this moment
what i be thankful
for
i would say
"all manner of beauty
and light"
precious light
where would we be
without you?

color speaks (#2)
cottonwood trees
glistened in the sun
and i was instantly
struck dumb
at the sight of them
* The golden glow of the cottonwood trees brought to mind an incident in the life of Moses. After living in the wilderness for forty years, he heard the voice of God through a burning bush. God doesn’t change, so thousands of years later, He still speaks through the things He has made. What deep comfort.

in spite of sorrow
i saw
pink clusters of comfort
in the garden
that day
and there was
nary a way
to deny
them
"Flowers seem intended for the solace of ordinary humanity."

reminded by the red rocks
i sometimes
find it funny
we have such a twenty twenty view
we have the answers
number
scoop
in life
even we get
fooled
