unadorned

i am often reminded
by things i see

that power dwells
in simplicity

“In character, in manner, in style, in all things, the supreme excellence is simplicity.”

~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

considering "exposure"

squinting
to see what is hidden
in shadows
(or underexposed)

is frustrating
at best

why not try
overexposing

simply bring more light
into that which is
murky or gray

and i daresay

you will find a new way
of seeing

setting and rising

it was a time in her life
when the blinds were drawn
and the doors locked tight

but on sunday afternoons
she rode her bike
to the edge of town

where she watched the sun
go out of sight
and the stars appear

through the dark
of night

"I've loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night."

regular, really?

and so what does it mean
this word

"regular"

the thesaurus says
systematic
orderly
normal
and yes, usual

i think of the postman coming at
his regular time

there is an order about
seconds ticking into minutes, into hours, into days
it’s systematic
but the earth rotating at the same speed everyday
around the sun and
fitting into the galaxy
at just the right place for
breathing to be possible

can that ever be called normal?

that a man is born of woman
with a brain, nerves, muscles and bones
that allow
him to walk
and deliver
letters
from across the world

could that ever be called
usual?

i guess we do the best we can
with those little things called

words

where there was once dry ground

the spring rains came
then came
again

and the meadow bloomed
wild

and free

"The most precious gift we can offer others is our presence.  When mindfulness embraces those we love, they will bloom like flowers."   ~Thich Nhat Hanh

the sky, last evening

she swept over hills
and trees

like the mighty angel Gabriel
fierce in beauty

heralding a truth
beyond

time

"To see the Summer Sky
Is Poetry, though never in a Book it lie-
True Poems flee."
                 Emily Dickinson

bewitched

color
grabs me

it reaches right out
to where i am

and halts me
mid step

texture
whispers

“come closer dear,
leave hurry
behind”

 when i see them together
i find myself lost
in the moment

forever
