another piece of autumns
crisp
succulent

i've discovered a new
art gallery

as of late
i've been making trips most every morning
to the corn field

harvest is past
and for the most part
the lovely stocks and shucks
are gone

but on the edges of the field
i see the most amazing
designs
and lines

reminders

that the artist
lives on

yes, every time i go
i see a new
piece

and it becomes
my
favorite

october glory

and for this
who shall get the
thanks

who shall get
the glory?

how many trees
and leaves this day
shall we pass by
without a thought or
sigh

we turn easily to God
in our pain
but where do we vain
creatures go

and what do we do

with this terrible
terrible beauty?

* One of my favorite things about this time of the year is the spectacular sight of the geese migration. Something about seeing a flock, a pair, or one alone, flying high, thrills my heart.

   * What wonderful news that the miners in Chile are seeing the sun at last! Their rescue this morning brings a passage from Psalms 139 to mind:

"Whither shall i go from your spirit? If i ascend to heaven you are there.
  If i make my bed in the depths of the earth, you are there....

  If I say, "let only darkness cover me,
  and the light about me be night,
  even the darkness is not dark to thee,
  the night is bright as the day:
  for darkness is as light with thee."

* I just finished a telephone conversation with my husband who is on a mission trip in Southern Sudan. He is helping with the final phase of a medical clinic construction project. (He is building cabinets.) It was wonderful to hear the humble awe in his voice as he spoke of the various experiences he was having there among the people. We truly are connected with fellow "travelers" all over the world, however various our backgrounds and circumstances. (Quite amazing, really.)

sludge

constantly

and burning
rather than
cool

but then
