there you sit little one
in a world fraught with
danger

don't fear me

i know what it's like
to be frightened
to feel that the only safe move
is no move
at all

seeing you reminds me
of the profound tenderness
with which Jesus sees us both

understanding as He does
all that it means
to live on this tiny, beautiful,
and dangerous
planet
